New volume "The Body in HipHop" to be published in September 2026!

Coming out soon! The new volume "The Body in HipHop" edited by Heidi Süß and myself that collects chapters about gender, aesthetics, epistemologies, resilience, marginalization and more in german and english language centering the body as medium of analysis and research in hip hop studies!  

What role does the body play in hip hop? How is it used in the different disciplines of the culture? What emancipatory and exclusionary potential does the body have, particularly in relation to race and gender? These and other questions are at the heart of the interdisciplinary contributions from music and dance sciences, animal studies, social pedagogy and educational research. This will stimulate a debate that has not yet been widely discussed in German-language hip hop research. Prominent voices from the international hip hop studies scene also contribute important insights to the volume.

This volume comes with chapters in german and english language by scholars such as Murray Forman, Mary Fogarty, Michael Rappe, Thomas Wilke, Jason Ng, Friederike Frost and many more.
