Workshop "cypher" at Schrittmacher Festival 2018

On saturday, 09.03.2018, Robozee/Flying Steps and me were invited to the Schrittmacher Festival Generation_2 to teach a workshop about the "cypher". The cypher is the space were the urban dance practices take place: a circular form, created by the practicioners, and a dancer in the middle, showing her or his skills. The roles are interchangable, every participant can jump in the  middle of the circle and perform, so there is no division of the "performer" and the "audience"! Still, there are certain rules to follow if you want to jump inside this circular space called the "cypher".

The workshop focused on the "cypher-rules" and on the competences one must gain to be able to present confident in the cypher, such as improvisation skills, musicality, call & response, communication and an awaresness of the 360° circular space to dance in.

To create a real cypher-experience, we had DJ CeesStone from Holland to provide us with some fresh music! 

We had a great group of dancers and dance pedagogues joining Robozee and me on this cypher-journey, and they did great! A big thank you to Yvonne Eibig of ARTbewegt e.V. for the invitation!

Conference for Hip Hop Based Education in Paris

At the end of this month I will present my research on Breaking and the cypher as a tool for teaching and learning at the conference "Pédagogie Hip-Hop / Hip-Hop Based Education" at the Université Paris Nanterre on 29. - 30.03.2018!

The topic of hip hop as a tool for education is a very interesting and innovative subject, that is researched since many years in countries like USA, Canada or UK. To have a conference adressing exclusively the topic of education through and with hip hop will be a great chance to extend the network of hip hop scholars around Europe and other countries! I am looking forward for interesting and international lectures within the conference.

Workshop for DYNAMO at PACT Zollverein

In December 2017, Bahar Gökten & me from nutrospektif were invited to PACT Zollverein in Essen to teach workshops for the young dancers participation at the DYNAMO Junge Tanzplattform NRW 2017. Our subject were urban/street dances on stage, and we focused on movements from Breaking and the possibilities how to work within movement research, improvisation, space and time. It was fun to work with these young and motivated dancers from different schools and dance theater projects, especially with the members of the ENSAMPLE collective from Pottpours e.V.
